Mount Tambora is an amazing volcano on the island of Sumbawa in Indonesia. Once, Mount Tambora raised as high as 4,300 m above sea level. The eruption of 1815, the largest volcanic eruption in recorded history, killed over 100,000 people and caused a climate cooling in 1816, know as year without summer. Today, Mount Tambora stands at about 2,722 m and has a 1,100 m deep caldera.

Mount Tambora is still little known with trekkers although the hike is doable for everyone and highly rewarding. It is possible to hike up to the rim and climb up to the summit. Either way, this website delivers you all the information you need for your Mount Tambora trekking.

The purpose of this website is to promote Mount Tambora. On April 2015, the area has been declared Mount Tambora National Park and there are already efforts to increase the number of visitors. This websites cares about the community development and aims to increase the standard of living of the local people. Therefor, this website manages the coordination with the local guiding association from the town Oi Bura.

Besides its hiking and 4wd opportunities, Mount Tambora is an area of archeological interest. The village kingdom of Tambora has been wiped out by the 1815 eruption. Several artefacts have been found in the recent years and the rich finds suggest that there is much more waiting to be discovered at the site.
